Quiet Site!

Survivalist better get ready for some cold weather and food shortages.

1) The sunspots are late. In fact, sunspots are supposed to be increasiing, the, the sun just hasn't had its cup of coffee this decade.

2) Environmentalist ethanol (subsidized) enthusiasm has already caused huge increases in grain costs. Even the UN has asked the US to stop the program.

Apparently, the food value of crops needed to fill one small car with ehtanol would feed a kid for a year.

ejdavid, you raise a good point on the greatest down fall for the development of Ethanol.

With food crops constantly being tainted during manufacturing and during the growing process, the supply has become very unstable. Farmers like to be secure with their investment, ethonal is a secure market. With the demand for fuel, there will always be a market. I like to think of the situation as a balance between food cost and fuel cost. Produce is alot more competative and parishable. Its more of a high risk to the farmer. without cheap fuel it is impossible for the farmer to produce a large enough crop to match the demand.

I think the best step we can take right now is to create equipment that run efficiently by burning natural gas. By my understanding it is plentiful in the United States.

This could be a solution rather than raising food costs.

"The sunspots are late"    What exactly do you mean by this?
